The Original Parlor Lives

YAAAAAAAAASSSSS!!!

It lives, and I am still keeping the Parlor 2.0 backup in the event the Original Parlor's server/host/or something does go down.  Let's hope not, or at least not any time soon.

There is a link to the Original Parlor in the footer of this site, which is its "sister site" for things like this blog and links to the Parlor's social media.  The Parlor can be reached by email at MWPChronicles@outlook.com, or by way of social media posts.

I've finally been able to do something I've been meaning to do for a long time.  On the Original Parlor's Page to Screen, I have had a table for page to screen comparisons between the novels and Mayfair Witches on AMC.  I went in and rebuilt the table but added something.

Footnotes.

The Witching Hour Kindle Edition on iPad
The Witching Hour
Kindle Edition on iPad
Each comparison with The Witching Hour as its source now has a footnote that will take you to the corresponding source at the bottom of the page.  I use the Amazon Kindle editions of the novels for this.  Yes, mine are verified purchases

How to do this?

I use Kindle for PC, and I've yet to check my Kindle app, but here it is.

As Kindle has a pretty impressive search function, this will help you find specific things.  Once you have and you go to that page, you highlight the text, and it will give you a context menu you can click "Copy" on.  When you paste it, not only will the text be there as you copied it, but so will the citation.  It will appear the way they do in the Footnotes section.

As for the print editions of the novels, how do we know the page numbers from the Kindle Edition will correspond to the page numbers in the print edition?  I had the same question.

The Witchng Hour Mass Market 1993
In this case, I found that for the most part, the Kindle page numbers correspond to the page numbers in the Mass Market editions of the novels.  Another way of telling is to look on the copyright page in the Kindle Edition.  For example, The Witching Hour copyright page on Kindle says A Ballantine Book, Published by The Random House Publishing Group.  The Mass Market edition I have (the one with the outer cover image by Zefa/The Stock Market) also indicates it was published by Ballantine/Random House.

Both editions also say they are published by arrangement with Alfred A. Knopf, Inc.  Knopf published the hardcover first editions of Anne Rice's novels.

Long story short, Kindle typically uses the Mass Market editions of novels for Kindle editions.  Page numbers, if they appear in the Kindle edition, come from the publisher (if they provide them).

I'm not affiliated with the publishers, but that doesn't mean I did not find it necessary to really dive into this.  It helps to know that not only did a certain thing come from a particular novel, but the edition of that particular novel is verifiably the correct one.  And in an era where protection of intellectual property has become more critical than ever, it's vitally important to learn how to do this, what to look for and identify any other important details.

Especially when one has intellectual property of their own and has an author in the family herself.  Ask me why I have a lot of the materials, manuscripts and galley proofs of my grandfather's work.

Even better, ask about the story of a bicycle, a Christmas tree and a bear.  In that order.  No, I'm not kidding.  But give me a few extra minutes in the telling because I CANNOT repeat that story without laughing out loud.  HARD.

The best part is that it's a true story.

Anyway.

Hopefully, the Original Parlor's web host is finally recovering from whatever happened.  Even if I never hear directly from guests of the Original Parlor (actual guests, not fake), always know that I appreciate each and every one of you for taking the time to pay a visit and learn even a little more about the Mayfair Witches and their stories as Anne Rice created and wrote them.

As only she could have written them.
