Sad news: the Parlor has just learned that former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki passed away on August 9, 2024 at age 56. According to NPR, Wojcicki had been battling non-small cell lung cancer for two years.
It's hard to know what to say, to find the right words in the face of such a tremendous loss. One thing I do know is that there is at least one word I could use to describe Wojcicki and YouTube: innovation. Utilizing new ways of content creation by way of new technology that allows for people to share their passions, their ideas, their points of view, their creativity and talent in ways never before seen. This was due largely to Susan Wojcicki, and for that, I am grateful to her for building a platform that has allowed so many of us to share our own creations with the world.
The Parlor extends deepest sympathies to Susan Wojcicki's family, friends, and colleagues at YouTube and Google. May she rest in eternal peace.
